Singapore walking

Last night the charming bar tender asked us about our plans for today and, when we said we were going to walk the Southern Ridges, said ‘You do know you’re in Singapore, right?’ Singapore is, admittedly, not known for its hiking but then the Southern Ridges Walk is more of a stroll than a hike.

Singapore has made huge efforts to be a garden city and the Southern Ridges Walk threads together a number of parks into one line. Much of the walk is on raised walkways amongst the tree canopy which makes for excellent views as well as a real sense of being surrounded by green. The walk is only some seven kilometers and is pretty smooth, although the heat and humidity do add a small degree of difficulty.

The walk ends at Mt Faber park which is also the taking off point for the cable car to Sentosa. We took the cable car for the hell of it and enjoyed the views on the way over. As we had little interest in Madame Tussaud’s, water parks, big swings, and so on we didn’t stay; especially when it became obvious the food choices were pretty poor.

Instead, after a shower, we whiled away the afternoon over lunch by the river at Boat Quay.

Then this evening we watched the light show on the bay over a cocktail.
