Road strains

Fours hours of weaving in an out amongst road trains and caravans took us South to Katherine. The experience of passing a huge rig pulling four normal trucks behind it must surely be uniquely Australian.

Katherine was a bit confronting with the Main Street rather full of people weaving about drunk, wafting smells of body odor and alcohol, and people shouting at each other. This was at midday mind you.

But Katherine Gorge was our actual destination, another thirty minutes on from Katherine. We are staying at the Gorge in a very nice hotel. After a quick check-in we set out on a walk up to the lookout over the first gorge. Very impressive. Then a fabulous meal to finish the day – full recovery from weeks in a tent.
