Classic views

Today we had a short day, only 12 and a bit kilometres. It’s tricky to get a balance sometimes, as while it would be nice to have the same number of kilometres per day, those pesky villages have been in the same place for 1,000 years and they are where the places to sleep are!

Belorado church, the view from our hotel room

Last night we were in Belorado, a lovely little town that we realised this morning as we were walking out that we should have explored more. And today we are in Villafranca Montes de Oca, a very grand name for a tiny blink and you’ll miss it village which has not much more than the hotel (built around a 14th Century pilgrims hospital) that we are staying in. Worth a short day to enjoy this very lovely spot, with a bar in the sun, and some impressive decoration in keeping with the historic buildings.

Today’s walk was pretty much classic Camino, some lovely little churches, some freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee, and lovely vistas in all directions. The upside of a short walking day for me, was that I had a chance to catch up on all my Board papers for next week (the reason that I’m leaving Tiny to her own devices at Burgos in a few days).

Buen Camino!
