Diving into Lübeck

Big day today immersed in the history of Lübeck. In short: for some 500 years Lübeck was the centre point of an immensely successful trading empire run by the traders not by kings or the church.

We started with a guided tour specifically tasked with focusing on the Hanseatic history, but which also covered much else. Then, after a restorative coffee stop for lunch, we visited the Hansa museum. The museum is rather excellent and we came away feeling like we were bursting with information and now fully up on what Lübeck is all about.

This evening has descended into more mundane matters with one group heading to the laundromat and another to the supermarket.

Lübeck’s Holstein gate. And yes it’s leaning.
