Druk Path 3
Today started with a brutal 300m climb up a hill. Every meter upwards means less oxygens in the air and we are all feeling it. I could manage maybe 50 paces breathing deeply and then had to stop to gather my breath. It really is quite an experience walking at this level.

On the other hand the Sun was shining and the views were absolutely stunning. Colourful prayer flags mark high points on the path and there was a backdrop of mountain ranges receding into the distance. We saw a herd of yak.
The first 300m up was followed by a short downhill and yet more and more uphill. The downhills were often covered in snow just to add to the mix. Between the altitude, the rough track and the icy conditions the going was slow.

After four hours of walking we passed our highest point today at around 4100m, turned a corner to find a table set for lunch. It was a beautiful albeit slightly surreal experience.

After lunch we had another couple of hours of hiking to reach our campsite which is at the side of a lovely calm lake. The campsite remained in sight but elusive as we edged closer to it. By the time we reached camp we were all very tired. But dinner tonight includes fish fresh caught from the lake so I’m sure we’ll bounce back.
