Seville traditional

Today is a big day for Seville. All of the brotherhoods parade through the town accompanied by floats bearing some of the important icons from the Cathedral.

Truth be told, even though we sat through all three hours of the parade, it wasn’t that exciting. Mostly it was men in suits strolling along streets strewn with sprigs of rosemary. The floats were the interesting bit, but there were only six of them. The thing I liked was that the floats are carried on the shoulders of teams underneath them, but the team can’t see where they are going. So directions are given by a man with a stick bashing the float.

In the afternoon we went to a flamenco show at the Casa de Memoria. I’d been assured this was the real deal and it certainly seemed very authentic. The verve and skill on display from dancers, singers and the guitarist was meserising.
