Harbour views

The Board meeting I’m over in New Zealand for is in our company’s new offices in Auckland – to celebrate moving in. It has absolutely fabulous harbour views, which amusingly everyone was quite dismissive about – “you must have much better ones in Sydney”.

I don’t agree – although the 90% complete building site blocking our views did make the view a bit worse- you can see it second from left from the skytower in the picture below. That building site (which has been sitting in the same state for 3 years after the developer went bankrupt) might not have happened that way in Sydney – hard to believe someone wouldn’t have bought it for a song and finished it.

While I can’t imagine anyone thinking the Auckland harbour bridge is better than ours in Sydney, Auckland harbour (Waitemata) is quite amazing. It’s full of islands, its shelter extends for hundreds of kilometres, and, of course, there is Rangitoto to add a frisson of danger and excitement.

Today for my last full day, after a coffee with my airbnb harbour view, I went all in – going for a run along the harbour front this morning, catching a ferry across to Devonport and climbing the nearest volcano at lunchtime, and then sitting in a harbourside bar watching the world cup this afternoon.
