Lucca

Lucca has been one of our favourite places on our trip. It is a beautiful city, with everything in walking distance, and the cafes and restaurants are reasonably priced, especially compared with Florence, Pisa or the Cinque Terre.

The apartment “Apartment Puccini” is very close to the train station, and inside the walls, so very few cars in the streets. There is an excellent bike hire place (with good kids bikes) just 100m away, so that you can ride around the walls.

The trains to Pisa and Florence go regularly, and Lucca itself is magical to walk around in, especially in the evenings when the day trippers have gone home.

Giovanna was very helpful. She met us at the station and showed us the place. The washing machine broke down during our stay, and not only did she come and see if she could read the italian manual for us pretty much as soon as we told her, she organised a replacement within a day when it couldn’t be fixed.

As others have said, the sitting space is quite small. It was OK for a family of four, but would be cramped for more people. There is much more space in the bedrooms.

The internet costs extra, which was no big deal for us, but may be for others.
