Ruhpolding

You will have seen on our main posts that we had a wonderful time in Ruhpolding, at an apartment that was way better than we expected. So here are some details, as the apartment is attached to a guesthouse that is not even listed on Tripadvisor.

Ferienwohnung Schneidersepp is an apartment in a building next to the Schneidersepp Gasthaus. The building consists of the family’s apartment (two floors), the holiday apartment (top floor) and stables (at the back). So it is part of a classic tourism/farming double header family business.

The apartment itself has three bedrooms, two of which are a good size, and the third is a fairly small one, which you would only want to be a single (or for two children). Everything is lovely fresh pine, with white linen, and classic Alpine decor.

The kitchen is fairly basic, with only a few cooking implements, but we did manage (or Evan did) to cook a roast chicken Christmas dinner which was very tasty, and included a full complement of roast vegetables.

Best of all Tanja Hoffnung, who runs the apartment, was incredibly helpful, picking us up from the station (1km away) giving us a welcome bottle of wine, and another Christmas one, and generally happily helping us out even without a real common language.

The fact that this apartment was hard for me to find made it a wonderful surprise at how good it was, given how much we had spent on it.

If I was writing a Tripadvisor review, I would say Hidden Gem.

Ruhpolding itself is a great little town, and we are regretting not spending two weeks there. There are lots of things to do, and even in winter, the walking is fantastic.
