Alone and seeking protein

If you’ve ever watched Alone you’ll understand both how difficult it is to be without human company and the need to eat protein to survive.

It’s the second week of school, and I am alone. No classmate, no one to chat with; and feeling a bit sorry for myself. Today, and the days ahead, was four hours of one-on-one Spanish. That’s quite… intense.

When I travel alone I have a tendency to become somewhat vegetarian. Not religiously, it’s just that I rarely cook meat for myself and will more often that not order a salad when out. But after a while I need a refill on meat. And Spain is the place to get meat, especially if you like it fatty.

Meat

The corner shop down the road from me sells cones of meat as if it was ice-cream. Well, you can choose between a cone of meat and a cone of lard. It does also sell jamón, which is of course the prince of Spanish meats. Thinly sliced, dry-cured ham from the hind leg of a pig. For the good stuff, the pig has passed its life in the Sun wandering around fields eating nothing but acorns.

So today was a day for jamón. This is my dinner.
