Monkeys, eagles, and elephant dung

Just after dawn is the time to see animals, so we were out on a long-tail boat looking for beasts as the Sun rose above the karst cliffs.

Khao Sok morning

We saw monkeys feeding and some beautiful eagles. We also saw fish but we’d had a close-up of one of those at dinner last night.

A lazy morning was of course required to recover from the early start.

In the afternoon we motored North on the lake and then hiked through the jungle. We did not see elephants, but did see some elephant dung. then we hopped on board bamboo rafts to cross another arm of the lake, before finally ascending to the Coral Caves.

The Caves are a small system with some pretty formations, many of which resemble, you guessed it, coral. They were also blessedly cool out of the blasting heat. It was technically 37 degrees but felt much hotter.

This evening there are thunderstorms on the horizon but here there’s a little breeze which is making sitting on the deck with a beer a delight.
