We stayed at the Otago Central Hotel in the school house rooms up the road from the main building for our last night on the rail trail. It was the most expensive place we stayed on the rail trail, and the worst. It wasn’t bad, but it was more motel style than the lovely lodges we had previously stayed in, and the breakfast wasn’t that big, given we were all going to be cycling the next day.
The buffet dinner, though, was lovely, with a lovely roast beef and potatoes, and entrees, and we really enjoyed the cafe food, the lemon tart was particularly nice.
From what I can gather it is one of the few places you can stay in this part of the rail trail, hence the high prices.
