We stayed at the Solandra Lodge, owned by the operators of shebikeshebikes for our first night on the Otago Rail Trail. It was a self contained apartment, attached to the main house of the owners, Steve and Carol Goodlass. Sadly, after an afternoon of horseriding, we got there too late for our boys to play with Steve and Carol’s boys, which is one of the attractions of this place for families.
Steve gave us a lift up to Ophir and back for dinner, and the apartment itself had everything we wanted – a lovely breakfast waiting for us in the fridge, comfortable beds, and lots of nice places to sit inside and outside. There was even a sheep outside grazing, which was very New Zealand country. We only wished we could have stayed longer.
