Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg
Boxing Day and we made our way to Hamburg.

The warehouse district proved to be very photogenic and worth a wander around. This in spite of our children insisting on a pointless argument about whether a plain of smelly mud was a beach or a mudflat.

The long-planned aim for the afternoon was a visit to Miniatur Wunderland. Imagine the world’s largest train set in a multi-storey warehouse. Add in quirky little jokes and Easter eggs to spot. Mix all that up with some clever tech and you get an idea of Miniatur Wunderland. The little side jokes were brilliant. A tiny Donal Trump on top of a rocket being shot into space. The couple having sex in the countryside. Rudolph the Red nosed reindeer. The list went on.

We had a behind-the-scenes tour which was absolutely fascinating. It also gave a real insight into the complexity of running something with tens of kilometres of track and thousands of moving parts.
You only get one guess what we had for dinner…
