Oooh the shiny

If the gilt-obsessed. Donald Trump were ever to visit Temple of the Jade Buddha he’d either be reduced to insignificance or inspired to take the White House to new heights of gold-encrusted tat.

The difference is that here in Thailand the endless gold, shiny tiles, mirrors glinting in the Sun seem to work. But there’s no denying that if there is a religious surface the Thais can make shiny, they’ll do so with extreme prejudice.

It was good to spend our last morning getting a full-on dose of Thailand at its brightest. Sydney tomorrow will seem duller – but please, oh please, cooler.
