In which I speak spanish

Those of you who have been reading this blog for a while will have noticed that Evan often goes and learns spanish, but if I learn anything it’s french. That’s been true for many years now. But last year, when we were in Madrid for the fourth time in as many years, I decided to face facts, it was time to switch. I have always loved being in Spain, my brother lives here, and many of his extended spanish family don’t speak much english.

I’ve decided that this year is my year of learning spanish.

This morning, nowhere to hide, I started my first day of school. I was nervous, but it is amazing how much easier it is to try and speak a language when everyone around you is doing the same thing. After five hours of school, I used my new found confidence to try to buy some shoes. Which worked, even in Spanish.

After a good chat with the zapatera, I tried on several pairs, and then bought two online to be delivered to my brother’s place in Madrid.

And this evening we had a city tour all in spanish. That was bit harder, but luckily Evan was there for the occasional translation.
