Siena sights seen
With only one day in Siena, we prioritized.
- Climb the tower of the town hall (lots of steps, good view).
- Coffee.
- Visit the Siena Archives (500-year-old files and paintings of a virtually unchanged Piazza del Campo).
- Coffee.
- Visit the Duomo and climb to the roof (more steps and views, much appreciation of painted ceilings and stained glass).
- Sit and look at exterior of Duomo (wow).
- Visit the town museum (disappointing, especially the good and bad government frescos – saw statue that reflected my feeling on yet more steps).
- Gelato.
- Fail to find the local contrade group’s museum, but luck out by stumbling into a sbandietaroti group practicing (feeling very happy to have seen a real version of the local flag throwing custom).
- Aperitivo in a local piazza.
- Final dinner with Connie and Jay.
