Chamonix

Driving out of Geneva towards Chamonix you’d be forgiven for thinking that you were slowly descending into the ground, or just shrinking. But, of course, it’s the mountains lining the valley that seem to grow with impossible speed.

Chamonix nestles under the towering heights of several mountains including the marquee name we’ve come for – Mont Blanc. The bottoms of the mountains are green with pine forests but the tops are still under snow and waterfalls create pathways all the way down. It’s all very pretty.

We spent the afternoon exploring Chamonix which really there isn’t much to beyond a huge range of outdoor shops interspaced with restaurants and real estate agents. In our personal pantheon, Chamonix is the only place we’ve visited with prices comparable to Sydney.

Tomorrow we’re going to become intimately acquainted with those mountains.
