Hot day for a walk
Last night in the lovely little town of Estella, we continued our gourmet tour of Spain. We could have had the pilgrims menu nearby, but instead we braved the incredibly steep bridge across the river for some special Spanish salads, in a bar overlooking the river. Regular readers of this blog will know that Evan’s favourite food in the whole world is ensalada de queso de cabra (goats cheese salad), so Tiny and I shared one, plus a burrata. And then it was practically compulsory to have a basque cheesecake, since it was the speciality of the house.
Luckily the restaurant was happy to give us food at 6pm, practically lunchtime in Spain, as we were both quite tired and hungry.

This morning Tiny started without me as I had a meeting with Australia and it promised to be a very hot day, so we needed to get cracking. I didn’t manage to catch up with her before the famous wine fountain (100 litres a day provided for pilgrims passing by), but managed to catch her before our first cafe for the day (orange juice and coffee). Fortified, we continued to the next village for a lovely picnic at a 12th century church about half way to our destination.

The afternoon was hot hot hot, with very little shade, only punctuated by the ocasional wild blackberry from the road side, so we are very happy to be now sitting in the town square, showered, with a beer each.
