Lake Ercina to Cabeza de Frorma
The photos of today just don’t do justice to a wonderfully beautiful place. The stark mountains, the lakes, the expansive views – the Picos are just stunning.

Even the details of the little wildflowers, the strange vibrant blue thistle, the insects were all captivating. The background noise of cowbells ringing added a certain something.

That said it was a tough walk in the heat on uneven ground often churned up by the ever present cows. Our destination was a mountain refuge which had icy cold drinks available – so another win.

All in all it was an excellent first day. Some of the group found the walk challenging. I have to say the main challenge for me was the twisting, winding drive to and from the lake which left me feeling distinctly queasy. But it was worth it for a walk which is right up there with the best.
