True cross

Today’s walk was more about green hills with a backdrop of stark cliffs than our previous days walking on the stark cliffs themselves. It was a pleasant walk especially as the trees provided some shade.

After the walk we had lunch in the town of Postes by the river. Then visited the local monastery which has a chunk of the true cross on display. Interestingly, the wood has been dated and sourced to be from a cypress tree from the Middle East cut down over 2000 years ago. So there you go.

The true cross

Finally we visited a local winery for a tasting.

It was a good last day in the Picos. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the walking and think the Picos are stunningly beautiful. The group I am with have been excellent company and all in all it’s been a great week.
