One day in Shanghai

5:25am – touchdown

5:25am – touchdown.

6:15am – larger hand luggage bag deposited in baggage store and successful payment with WeChat.

6:20am – sitting with a flat white and contemplating the time between sleeps given I did not sleep a wink on the plane. Feel like I might return to this theme as the day progresses

7:15am – on the Maglev.

8:15am – second coffee under the Oriental Pearl TV Tower after negotiating the metro.

8:40am – walking the weirdly silent streets – every single car, bus, and scooter is electric.

9:00am – going up the Shanghai Tower; World’s fastest elevator in the third tallest tower.

10:00am – Shanghai Tower’s enormous damper and its sound and light show.

11:00am – the, air-conditioned, Museum of Art Pudong. A very cool contemporary art and architecture gallery.

12:30pm – walked along the Pudong shore of the Yangtze looking at the Bund. Very, very hot.

1:00pm – caught the ferry. Got on the car ferry by mistake but it was one scooter, me, and two other pedestrians.

2:00pm – ferry went wrong way so ended up walking ages to Yu Gardens. Added up to over 15km walking today in ridiculously hot conditions.

3:00pm – back on the Maglev and to airport where a shower in the lounge beckons.
