Capital adventures

Evan and I often go down to Canberra to visit Skye, but this time I had a bit more time, and nowhere else to be, so I stayed a bit longer.

The best part of Canberra, for me, is still the lake – we often walk around it on a visit, and this time I was staying right next to it, which made for some beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

Canberra is built on a fairly monumental scale – designed in the early 1900s when we were growing into our status as a real nation. The plus side of that is that there are some fabulous national museums, but the downside is that getting between them all is a bit tricky for an unassisted human (one without a car).

But I rose to the challenge, used some share scooters and bikes, and really enjoyed spending time in the National Gallery of Australia and the National Portrait Gallery, as well as a wonderful tour of the feminist history of Canberra.

Canberra in winter is quite beautiful, sunny blue skies and lovely days.
